Gazing up towards the stars provides a beautiful reminder of our place in the universe. But as the UK’s towns and cities expand, the number of places free from the impact of light pollution dwindles.
Thankfully, some locations with the clearest night sky have become protected from development under schemes such as the International Dark-Sky Association. From Bodmin Moor to Moray, property developer Essential Living has scoured the country in search of the best dark sky spots for the perfect stargazing trip, many of which enjoy conservation status.
Researchers ranked each location against 10 factors, generating a total score out of 100. Among the factors considered were levels of light pollution, height of vantage points, accessibility, number of Airbnbs and popularity on social media.
