THE Worcester News clipping files keep popping up (for which we thank the long-dead races, the newspaper’s library section) – this week’s file contains the old-school youth clubs in town.
Most of the clippings and pictures in our files relate to the City Youth Center, later Youth House, in Spring Gardens off City Walls Road, since it opened in January 1971, but there are also earlier stories and pictures from the City Youth Council in in the 1960s and breakdancing in Warndon in the 80s and skateboarding.
Changed days … “Despite its size, it is always possible to find a quiet corner to smoke in the new youth center,” Berrow’s Journal said in January 1972
And as an example of how times have changed, when the youth center opened there was a quiet place for the little ones to enjoy a cigarette!
Do you remember going to one of the clubs as a teenager? What memories do you have of the places in town that have been set up for bored teenagers?
