Worcester Ukulele Club makes its first appearance since the pandemic to raise funds for charity

WORCESTER musicians enjoyed their first event in a year while enjoying the sun with locals last weekend.

The Worcester Ukulele Club made its first appearance since March 2020 in a charity fundraiser on Sunday, May 30th. The event, held at the Berkeley Arms in St. John’s, was organized to raise funds for St. Richard’s Hospice .

Beverley Walton, who runs the pub with her son Ashley, said, “Thank you Worcester Ukulele Club for enjoying our charity fundraiser in St. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon, the atmosphere and the weather.”

Ms. Walton retired from nursing last year after 38 years with the Worcestershire Health and Care Trust and accepted a new challenge.

She said, “St. Richards was always there to provide support and guidance to patients, relatives, and colleagues. You are unbelievable.”

Fourteen players met in the pub on Sunday afternoon for a socially distant event.

Trevor Taylor, Worcester Ukulele Club Board Member, said, “It’s been a great afternoon and hopefully a nice sum of money has been raised for the pub’s charity. Thanks to all.”

The club used social media to express its joy. They posted on Facebook: “Trevor was very happy yesterday, with the Wuccies’ first gig in about 15 months – We had a large and receptive audience who obviously enjoyed sitting in the bright sunshine. I admit I have one bit was nervous about this first gig, with little or no practice lately, but not least thanks to John’s great leadership and virtuoso performance on bass, it was as if we had never been away. We were close and together, (musically .)!) with just a little hiccup when some of us took the wrong turn on the road to Amarillo! A great afternoon! We wanted more and hopefully we raised a nice sum for the charity of the pub – St. Richards Hospice . Thanks again to everyone!”.
