Nick’s mission: 100 miles in 100 hours with 100 halves sunk

A SOLIHULL man is on a mission to run 100 miles in 100 hours, visit 100 pubs and drink 100 halves in the process.

Nick Wormald launched the 100 Challenge last Monday, August 23rd, to raise £ 25,000 for the Maggs Day Center charity, which supports the homeless and vulnerable in Worcestershire.

He makes his way from the Purity Brewery in Studley and is accompanied on the trip by Mel Kirk, the managing director of Maggs.

“As an organization, we rely on the support of individuals like Nick to fund our work,” said Mel.

“After many months of lockdown, it is more important than ever that we have a network of adequate support in place to help the more vulnerable members of society.

“When calculated by population, the incidence of poor sleep in Worcester (one in 3,500) is higher than in London (one in 7,800).”

Nick said his fundraising efforts were inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore, who raised more than £ 32 million for NHS Charities Together.

“The 100 Challenge Initiative was founded on the dramatic reduction in nonprofit revenue resulting from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

“At the beginning of Captain Tom’s incredible endeavors, I pledged to raise 1 percent of the amount Captain Tom raised, but (luckily) capped it at £ 10,000. Fundraising has of course only recently started.

“The 100 Challenge encompasses so many things that are great about our culture, including welfare, canals, pubs, open spaces, and the incredible generosity of our people.

“This has already allowed us to increase our ambitions to £ 25,000.”

Nick wanted to be back at the Purity Brewery at noon this Friday, August 27th, after completing a route around the Worcestershire county line.
