Stourport’s “Magical” Kindergarten deserves the advisor’s praise

A growing kindergarten at a Stourport school was described by an education advisor in Worcestershire on a recent visit as a “magical place” with strong leadership and enthusiastic staff.

Nine new children will join the Acorns Nursery at St. Bartholomew’s CE Primary School in January, for a total of 28.

Gill Deakin, Early Years Teaching and Learning Advisor, said, “It’s a magical place where kids are guaranteed a great start to their learning journey.

She added, “All adults exuded enthusiasm and adjusted to the unique needs of each child in their care.

“With the children and the adults, who obviously wanted to be part of their children growing up to be independent and fun-loving learners, there was a real excitement and achievement in the room.

“Each child responded with rays of joy to show how much they valued the individual time adults spent with them in their chosen play activity, which it took to gain confidence and feel valued as they learn new skills.

“All of this comes from the strong leadership of the entire kindergarten group, starting with the two-year room and moving into the kindergarten through to the admission class.”

In addition to accepting new children, the kindergarten offers parents who are only entitled to 15 hours under the state program the full 30 hours per week free of charge.

Teacher and Kindergarten Director Nik Furnival said: “Since September the school has funded the additional 15 hours, which has given a big boost to the accelerated developmental children and in some cases has allowed parents to work or add more hours work.”

Phase Leader and Assistant Principal Mike Goodall said, “We loved the advisor’s comments. We work hard to do our best for all of our children and to create a seamless transition from kindergarten to school. ”
