Droitwich Lido has expanded its winter swimming program after die-hard souls took the opportunity to take the plunge over the Christmas season.
Lido bosses rolled out the scheduled hour-long sessions in December, marking the first time it opened its doors to winter swimming.
They proved to be a huge hit with local players who flocked to paddle in the cool waters.
In fact, it was so popular that the lido decided to introduce additional slots during January.
The sessions take place on Saturdays and Sundays every weekend until the end of the month from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Sessions can be booked online eight days in advance so everyone has a chance to brave the cold.
The lido says they should be treated like a wild bath, meaning the pool is chlorinated but not heated.
Droitwich Spa Leisure Center & The Lido said, “Cold water swimming has some incredible benefits for your physical and mental health.
“Aside from the apparent increases in cardiovascular fitness and muscle strength, one of the benefits of these swimming exercises is amazing skin.
“Salt water is rich in magnesium, calcium and potassium, which is good for the skin.
“The water is also a mild antiseptic and can promote healing of damaged skin.
“You can increase your stress tolerance by swimming regularly in cold water.
“The cold water creates a stress response in the body which, if used regularly, can increase your tolerance to all types of stress. Other benefits include an increase in self-esteem and a high after swimming!”
Swimmers must sign a disclaimer upon entry if they wish to take a bath.
The lido has also issued some tips for swimmers to keep them safe in the cool conditions, which can be found on their website.
