Coventry care home brings Christmas in February to make up for missing festive season due to Covid

A COVENTRY based care home decided to pull out the crackers and Christmas tree for a belated Christmas party.

MHA Abbey Park provides residential, residential dementia, general nursing and nursing dementia care.

To make up for missing Christmas in December due to an outbreak, the staff decided to spread some festive cheer and organized a party with one of the residents dressing up as Santa to deliver presents.

Tina Thompson, home manager said: “Sadly for residents we experienced a significant outbreak of Covid three days prior to Christmas.

“All residents were affected when we were instructed by Public Health England to close the home.

“We wanted to recreate Christmas Day with decorations, food, wine, entertainment and gifts as a small token towards our extended family members.”

Kerry Smith, activity coordinator said: “The residents really enjoyed the Christmas party, and it didn’t feel at all like we were in February.

“We had Christmas crackers, turkey and Christmas pudding and the vibe around the home was very festive.”
