Police searching for missing Birmingham doctor and Army medic Lt Col Andrew Haldane have said a body has been found in the Worcestershire countryside. The consultant anaesthetist at Edgbaston’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital(QE) vanished after leaving work on Monday night(June 6).
West Mercia Police discovered a body today(Wednesday, June 8) in Netherton Lane, Abberley, near Worcester. Formal identification is yet to take place but relatives of 45-year-old Mr Haldane have been informed of the development.
NHS hero Mr Haldane, from Ombersley, worked in the QE Hospital helping Covid patients during the pandemic. Colleagues made desperate appeals to find the missing doctor online over the past 24 hours as they grew increasingly concerned.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “Police searching for missing Worcester man Andrew Haldane have found a body. The body was found earlier today in Netherton Lane in Abberley.
“Formal identification has yet to take place however Andrew’s family has been informed.” The doctor was reported missing yesterday(Tuesday, June 7) when he failed to return home from work.
Officers said he was last seen leaving his place of work, the QE Hospital, at around 5pm on Monday. They have been keen to trace the silver Ford Focus Estate he was driving too.

Lt Col Haldane is connected to the Royal Center for Defense Medicine, which treats general patients and injured soldiers at the QE Hospital. Despite being an anesthetist attached to the theater team involved in surgeries, during the pandemic, he helped intubate Covid patients.
Professor David Rosser, chief executive of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust, that runs the QE Hospital, also joined in appeals to find the doctor earlier today on social media channels.
Colleague Dr Nick Crombie, a trauma anesthetist at the QE hospital, appealed for help tweeting a photo of his friend saying: “North Worcestershire and surrounds – this is Andy – he is a colleague, a friend and a good man.”
