Ruthless Hampshire cruise to victory
Daniel Bell-Drummond hit 149 in the first innings of this match and that looked to give Kent confidence. But some excellent batting from Hampshire put the game beyond their hosts. James Vince (111), Liam Dawson (171) and Ben Brown (157) all passed the century mark. The partnership of 273 between Dawson and Brown was also Hampshire’s highest ever fifth wicket. Kent failed to put Hampshire back into bat. Ben Compton continued his bright start to the summer, scoring 89, but that was not enough. Hampshire won by an innings and 51 runs.

Power hitting Burgess helps Warwickshire to victory
Essex failed to bring momentum from their last win and scored 168 in their first innings. Tom Westley (80) was the only batter to make an impact against the Bears bowling attack. Danny Briggs finished with 4/31 from 15.2 overs. Warwickshire’s reply began slowly, but when Michael Burgess came to the crease, things suddenly changed. He teed off against the visitor’s bowling attack, hitting 170 from 217 balls. That included an over versus Matt Critchley in which he smashed 24 runs. Essex did manage to get over 300 in their second innings, with Simon Harmer top scoring (75). But due to their low first innings total, Warwickshire needed less than 100 for victory. Dom Sibley and Alex Davies saw them home and handed the Bears their first win of the season.
Essex finally dismiss Michael Burgess for 170 🙌

Surrey win despite Somerset resilience
Somerset captain, Tom Abell, made his highest first-class score of 150* in the first innings of the match as his side made 337. Surrey replied with 308, Sam Curran top scoring with 80. Ollie Pope was also going well on 47, but a stunning Tom Banton catch ended his innings. Peter Siddle also took a brilliant 6/51. Somerset’s second innings saw Abell (53) and Banton (52) both pass 50. It was Ryan Patel who made the most impact in the final innings of the match. He hit 102 as Surrey almost faltered. Some cheap wickets looked to have turned the match in Somerset’s favour, but Ben Foakes’ unbeaten 48 was enough to see them home.
Ben Slater doubles up to defeat Durham
Nottinghamshire took a swift victory over Durham after only having to bat once to secure the win. Durham scored 230 in the first innings, with Liam Patterson-White claiming 5/45, whilst Sean Dickson scored top for Durham with 54. Nottinghamshire took full advantage with the bat, scoring a hefty 488/9d, thanks to a magnificent 225 from Ben Slater and 108 from Lyndon James. On the back foot, it took Notts just 34.5 overs to dismiss Durham for 134 and take an emphatic win on the road.

Leach and D’Oliveira shine as Worcestershire get their first win of the season
A big first innings score of 491 gave Worcestershire a brilliant start at New Road. Ed Pollock scored quickly (77 from 74) and hit 15 boundaries in the process. A few wickets later, Brett D’Oliveira came to the crease and struck a true captain’s innings. His 169* was the top score for his side. Tom Haines was the bright spark for Sussex in that innings as he picked up three wickets. Cheteshwar Pujara scored his second century (109) for the visitor’s, but was the only Sussex player to make it past 50. Worcestershire enforced the follow on and Pujara failed to recreate his heroics at the second time of trying. Grant Stewart’s efforts were valiant (67*), but Sussex were all out for 188, giving Worcestershire a win by an innings and 34 runs.
Toby Roland Jones stuns Glamorgan
Three days was all Middlesex needed to claim victory away to Glamorgan thanks to a dominant display from Toby Roland-Jones. The former England man took 3/34 in the first innings and was then called upon when his team went to bat. The visitors were in a spot of bother when Roland-Jones took to the crease at 100/6. But a 103 run stand with John Simpson (who eventually finished 104*), helped Middlesex to 336. It then took the remainder of day two and a few hours of day three for Middlesex to dismiss the hosts. Roland-Jones finished the second innings with figures of 5/40. The match also featured the battle of Marnus Labuschagne and Shaheen Afridi. Their rivalry originates from international level and this time round, they got each other out in respective innings!

Northamptonshire hold off Yorkshire in thriller
After Yorkshire had been bowled out for 296 in the first innings, where Gareth Berg took 5/58 and Harry Brook top scored with 84, Northamptonshire were in a good position. Although they fell slightly short with their response, scoring 204 in their first innings. A much-improved second inning from Yorkshire saw them declare on 406/3, after George Hill went unbeaten on 151. However, questions arose about the time of the declaration, giving Northants a target of 499, late after tea. The resilience of Northamptonshire excelled on the fourth day, as they dug in for a long day with the bat, lead by Will Young who scored 96* as the home side fought their way to a well-earned draw.
Hassan Ali stars in thriller at Old Trafford
A bowling masterclass from Hassan Ali saw Lancashire have their foot on the gas from the first day, taking 6/46 and nearly having a hat-trick, as Gloucestershire were bowled out for 252. The hosts responded with a huge first innings total, 556 /7d, thanks to a magnificent double hundred from Josh Bohannon (231), backed up by his captain, Dane Vilas, who also scored 109. Gloucestershire were not going down without a fight though, as they gritted out for most of the final day as Lancashire dug deep for wickets. Tom Lace and Jared Warner provided resilience. but Mahmood and Ali got the final breakthroughs, with just 23 balls remaining in the day.
