Rutland Water beauty spot was named one of the UK’s best BBQ spots this summer.
So says TV presenter and outdoor walking enthusiast Julia Bradbury, who has teamed up with grill maker Weber to name the UK’s best BBQ spots.
Rutland Water Park was chosen by the Rutland-raised presenter for its breathtaking 4,200 acres of open countryside and the many activities it offers including hiking, biking, fishing and water sports.

Rutland Water Park allows barbecues on site (with the exception of the nature reserves in Egleton and Lyndon), but visitors are asked to only barbecue on the metal stands provided.
Weber says outdoor cooking has increased significantly in the past 12 months. More than half of people said they had improved their grilling skills, and 48 percent now enjoy a weekly grilling.
With stays still proving to be popular, Weber expects this trend to continue, with vacationers taking their love of barbecues far away and on their adventures.
Julia Bradbury said: “I have been fortunate enough to be able to walk some of the most remarkable places in Britain. So I’ve selected some of my favorite spots that combine the most breathtaking views with safe BBQ areas so you can enjoy the British countryside has to offer.
“Narrowing down to just 10 locations was really hard work, but I hope we picked something for everyone. Regardless of whether you are the type of “barbecue explorer” who wants to enjoy the beautiful landscape, the enchanting forest or the peaceful valley, I hope we have found the perfect place for you. “

Best BBQ spots in the UK this summer, according to Julia Bradbury
East Midlands: Rutland Water
Located around beautiful Rutland Water, the park spans 4,200 acres of open countryside and offers everything from hiking and biking to fishing and water sports. The Rutland Water Park allows barbecuing on site, with the exception of the nature reserves in Egleton and Lyndon, and only on the provided metal stands.
South West: The Downs, Bristol
The Downs consist of Clifton Down and Durdham Down, which border Bristol. There are barbecue areas on the Ladies Mile, but these must be kept on the flagstones and signposted areas. The grill must be placed on the ground, not park furniture, on legs so that it does not burn the grass, and be watched while lighting.
West Midlands: Wolverley – Camping and Caravanning Club Campground
This campsite and caravanning club is surrounded by the stunning Worcestershire countryside and with the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal just 60 meters from the property, you can really enjoy life on the slow road. You can take lovely walks on the canal’s towpath.
Northern Ireland: Glenariff Forest Park
Glenariff, Queen of the Glens, is one of the nine Antrim Glens in Northern Ireland. Glenariff Forest Park covers over 1,000 acres with planted forests, ponds, outdoor picnic and barbecue areas, and a tea house. Grills may only be used at the picnic / barbecue areas provided for them.
Northwest: Beacon Fell Country Park, Lancashire
Beacon Fell Country Park includes 75 acres of forest, grass, and moorland. There is a special barbecue area at Carwags, on Carwags Lane as you leave the fells for Longridge. This place is the only place in the park where barbecuing is allowed.
North East: Rising Sun Country Park, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Rising Sun Country Park is a green oasis in the heart of North Tyneside. It has free parking with a picnic and barbecue area. Visitors should speak to the caretaker about barbecuing upon arrival at the park.
Yorkshire: Bolton Abbey
Bolton Abbey Estate is a stunning setting for a BBQ, surrounded by scenic countryside and overlooking the River Wharfe. Barbecue evenings are welcome at Barden Field Car Park. This designated area has stone slabs for visitors to place their grill on, as well as metal containers and water buckets. Grills must be either disposable or portable, but large enough to stand on a 600 by 600 mm stone slab. For a visit with a barbecue evening, it is essential to register on the website in advance.
Wales: Cwmcarn Forest Drive
In a truly serene setting, this enchanting forest is the perfect place to leave the rest of the world behind. Here visitors can park in one of the seven parking spaces to enjoy the view and enjoy the designated picnic and barbecue areas.
South East: Southsea Common, Portsmouth
In Southsea Common, there are designated barbecue areas with special containers and plenty of open space. If you bring a grill, keep it away from fire hazards such as hedges and make sure you have a safe, level surface or stand. Everything that is placed in the containers must be extinguished and cold.
Scotland: Craigtoun Country Park, Fife
Craigtoun is 47 acres of manicured public park just 2 miles from the historic town of St. Andrews. There are special barbecue stands in the picnic area near the adventure playground. You can grill elsewhere, but you have to be respectful of other visitors. Don’t put it directly on the grass.
Here are Weber’s top tips for responsible grilling:
- When grilling, it is important to take safety precautions to avoid fire damage. It’s best to use a portable grill instead of a disposable grill to protect the grass and the surrounding area.
- Check what kind of grill is allowed on site, e.g. B. Size and fuel type
- Be socially responsible and make sure you are allowed to grill at your destination.
- When leaving the premises, take all fuel and waste with you.
- Make sure that all grills are completely cleared and disposed of before leaving them.
