Petition to keep the Stourport pub rocking after noise complaints

ALMOST 2000 people have signed a petition to have live music at a pub in Stourport after fears the council might pull the plug.

Maggie Flight, licensee of the Rock Tavern Pub in Wilden, has said that she feels that the future of live music in the riverside beer garden is “threatened” after noise complaints.

She says the events this year matched the pub’s outdoor music license and were critical to recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, Worcestershire Regulatory Services are now working with the pub after “a number of noise complaints from several residents”.

The 53 year old landlord said: “We are a family pub. Right now we feel threatened.

“I’m really worried. Bars have problems. It’s really difficult right now.”

A petition was started in support of the popular pub and has now received almost 2,000 signatures.

A resident expressed support and said, “I live near the Rock Tavern, although I am not a regular pub goer I can hear the music but it is on at a reasonable time and never too late.

“The owners have worked very hard developing the riverside garden and keeping their business open during these difficult times.”

Another said, “We’ve been without live music for too long, the area is crying out for entertainment. Don’t take that away.”

Another said, “Pub entertainment is important to the community and if you choose to live next to a pub some noise is to be expected.

“It’s not every night and it’s not late.”

Another said: “Local pubs and live music should be encouraged.”

Councilor Nicky Martin said: “After receiving complaints, an officer from Worcestershire Regulatory Services visited the pub and warned the owners that live bands performing outdoors are causing noise nuisance to neighbors.

“The officer suggested measures they could take to curb the noise. Unfortunately, Worcestershire Regulatory Services have received more noise complaints and are continuing their investigation.

“Worcestershire Regulatory Services will continue to work with the pub owners to ensure that they operate in compliance with the law and that live bands do not disturb local residents.”
