The survey aims to gain views on what is available in schools

COUNCIL Education Chiefs have asked Worcester residents to vote on a new high school for the city worth £ 35 million.

A month-long public consultation will be launched to find out what is most important to residents in the delivery of a new school for their children.

In February of this year, the heads of cabinet approved the creation of a new 600-seat secondary school in Worcester to meet the increased demand for school places. So far, six possible locations have been identified but not published.

Coun Marcus Hart, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said, “Ensuring that children across the county have access to quality education is a long-term priority for the county council.

“Over the past five years we have invested in the development of facilities at the existing secondary schools in Worcester.

The level of additional places that are needed now gives us the opportunity to consider delivering a new school.

“The location of a new school will take several factors into account, including relieving pressure from oversubscribed schools and helping parents choose the secondary school for their children,” he added.

A new school will ensure that children in a growing city have access to a secondary school place in their community.

The need for a new school in Worcester goes hand in hand with the approval of large housing developments in the city and improves choice and access for families.

The school is supplied by Worcestershire County Council and run by an academy sponsor. The process for the appointment of a sponsor runs in the autumn semester 2021 and follows the free school presumption process of the Ministry of Education (DfE).

The poll runs until June 11th.
