The University of Worcester has opened a vaccination clinic on its City Campus, which is available to students and staff and now welcomes the wider population.
The center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is located in the basement of the Charles Hastings building on the University’s City Campus on Castle Street – the former Worcester Royal Infirmary.
As this is a walk-in center, an appointment is not required in advance.
The Pfizer vaccine will be available to anyone eligible for the first and second dose. However, no booster jabs will be available on this site.
Dr. Tim Jones, University Director, said, “We are very excited to be working with our NHS partners to bring this facility to the wider community and continue to do our part to keep us all safe from Covid-19.
“We were delighted to see so many of our new and returning students, many of whom have worked on the NHS front, arrive fully vaccinated.
“For those who didn’t have the opportunity before they arrived, we were able to offer them this opportunity through our on-campus clinic, which makes it really easy and straightforward for students to get vaccinated.
“We believe that encouraging as many people as possible to get vaccinated is key to helping the nation recover from this pandemic and protecting as many people as possible.”
The university has partnered with the NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group and SW Healthcare to open the center.
Dr. Gemma Moore, clinical director at SW Healthcare, said, “It’s hard to underestimate the importance of getting vaccinated, no matter how young or healthy you are – in particular, about a fifth of hospital admissions for Covid are now people of old age from 18 to 34 years.
“We urge everyone to do their part to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and to protect themselves, their friends and family by getting fully vaccinated as soon as they are able.”
Simon Trickett, CEO of NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire CCG, added: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with the University of Worcester to offer the Covid-19 vaccine to students and now to offer an additional vaccination site for the local community at City center.
“This is another important step in the Worcestershire vaccination program, and the fact that we can provide students and the public with a convenient location in town to receive the vaccine will enable our continued success in ensuring that our population is fully vaccinated while we’re on into the wintertime. “
