Are you planning a stay this summer? Then you need to know the best places to relax in the sun as a family.
There are a number of splash parks and beach bathing establishments reopening in Birmingham, Worcestershire and the Greater Midlands area in the summer of 2021, making them ideal for an afternoon while exploring something new.
And the good news is that many of these splash parks are free.

While many of the Splashpads would normally have been reopened by now, some have been reset due to delays in easing lock restrictions. Other leisure providers are still discussing the possibility of a Covid-safe reopening, so we’ve included this at the end of our guide so you can keep an eye on the reopening.
As always, stay safe by following government guidelines on Covid restrictions and checking opening times to avoid disappointment. Stay home if you have symptoms or are waiting for test results.

Brinton’s Park Splashpad, Kidderminster
The Splashpad in Brinton’s Park in Kidderminster has slides, water cannons and jets to play with. There is a large splash park on Sutton Road with free parking.
There are colorful special floors to help prevent slides, as well as a boat and shallow play areas for the little ones.
Covid rules mean that the splashpad is currently limited to 20 people at a time and employees will be at the gate on the weekend. The opening times are daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A Wyre Forest District Council spokesman said on its website, “During peak weekend periods, visitors are given a colored bracelet. This is done according to the “first come, first served” principle. The sessions last 20 minutes.
“Please follow the rules around the splashpad. Failure to do so will close the splashpad.”
The splash pad is right next to a large playground and fields where you can go for a walk, picnic, and play football. There is a nice bandstand and also a skate park.

Jungle chaos, Swadlincote
There is a lovely outdoor pool and beach area at Jungle Mayhem, formerly known as Jungle Madness.
The Church Street soft play center has a great outdoor area with lounge chairs and picnic tables by the pool, as well as a coffee lounge with a fully stocked licensed bar and restaurant. There is also a bouncy castle.
There are morning, noon, and afternoon beach sessions and fees apply. Best to book in advance.
Inside the three-story playhouse there is a ball pit, an Astra slide, a ride on trikes and a sky glider.
There are also some lovely walks in the area if you want to make an afternoon out of it.

Droitwich Spa Lido, Worcestershire
The 40 meter long open-air saltwater swimming pool has reopened at the Droitwich Spa Lido.
It is a lovely place to relax on a summer day as it is set in beautiful green parkland and features an original Art Deco building in the middle of beautiful green parkland. There are fees.
There is a wet play area with cannons and fountains for children, as well as a café.

Hood Park Lido, Ashby-de-la-Zouch
Hood Park Leisure Center has the only lido in Leicestershire and reopened in the summer of 2021.
Opened in 1929, the lido has changed a lot since it closed and is now a great place to cool off on hot days.
There are actually two outdoor pools in the quaint market town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch – a 30 x 10 m main pool and a smaller 10 x 6 m pool.

There’s also a new sandpit feature from Ashby-by-the-Sea and a brand new catering center for refreshments.
The lido is available for public swimming events throughout the summer season and can also be rented for parties and other private events. There are fees.

Others to look out for
Walsall splash guard
In Walsall there is not just one, but three splash parks.
You can find one at Willenhall Memorial Park, King George Vth and Walsall Arboretum.
The Walsall Council announced that it will not open the Splashpads for the half-year in May, but it hopes to open them for the six-week vacation if Covid restrictions allow.
We will update this guide when this is confirmed.
Dartmouth Park Splash Pad, West Bromwich
There is a nice water playground that can be used free of charge in the summer months. It is currently being discussed when it will reopen.
Splash Park is right next to Sandwell Valley Country Park, which has a large adventure playground, a farm (for a fee), a tea room and a mountain bike trail for an eventful day.
There is also a high ropes course adventure course (for a fee).

Mary Stevens Park in Stourbridge has a water play area with water jets, cannons, a spray loop and a flower water feature.
Dudley Council officials hope this splash park will reopen once the restrictions are lifted. We will update this guide when it is announced.
