Warriors are kicking off this year’s Worcester Big Sleep-Out to raise funds for the Maggs Day Center

WARRIORS stars Justin Clegg, Matt Kvesic, Anton Bresler and Gareth Simpson were there to kick off this year’s Worcester Big Sleep-Out.

The Premiership faces joined Chris Stephenson and Matt Cowdrey from the Warriors Community Foundation and Nichola Osbourne from Maggs Day Center at the launch in Sixways, where the Big Sleep-Out will take place on Thursday night October 14th.

This will be the third Worcester Big Sleep-Out after last year’s event was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with proceeds being shared between the Warriors Community Foundation, Maggs Day Center and St Paul’s Hostel.

The fundraising offer aims to raise £ 45,000 and has already received a healthy boost through generous sponsorship from Lowe’s Solicitors. However, more support is needed to achieve this goal and help the charities after 18 months in which fundraising opportunities have been severely limited due to the pandemic.

“As professional athletes, we are very well looked after, but we know that not everyone is as lucky as we are,” says Clegg.

“Homelessness remains a major problem in Worcester, Worcestershire and across the UK. Many people with low wages or high rents have suffered dire straits during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Charities like the Warriors Community Foundation, Maggs Day Center and St. Paul’s Hostel all do a great job helping the homeless, but they need financial support to do that. For the past 18 months they have all suffered a loss of revenue and fewer fundraising opportunities, and last year’s cancellation of Worcester Big Sleep Out was very disappointing.

“We’re excited to have the event back this year and Warriors are excited to host the event again at Sixways.

“The weather in October will not be as warm and comfortable as it is now, so sleep-out participants will have a cool night and the inconvenience of sleeping outside.

“But it will only be for one night and in a safe and secure stadium. For many people, sleeping outdoors in any weather in places that make them vulnerable or at risk is an everyday issue.

“Everyone at Warriors is fully committed to the Worcester Big Sleep-Out and we ask our supporters to think of the homeless and dig deep to help us help them.”
