Worcester City Runs are bolstered by the new family track and field event

This year’s Air Products Worcester City Runs will be complemented by a family event founded by athletics legend Paula Radcliffe.

Paula’s Families on Track, powered by Atom Bank, will compete in the popular Worcester City Half Marathon, 10K and Young Athletes Run, which gives family teams the opportunity to work together to complete 10K in a relay on a safe, closed course. The Air Products Worcester City Runs are returning on September 4th and 5th and are being run through a partnership between Worcester City Council and Events of the North.

Established in 2014, Air Products Worcester City Runs attract thousands of runners and spectators to the city. The Half Marathon, 10K and Young Athletes Run have grown bigger year by year, attracting both leading club athletes and a large number of fun runners, many of whom raise money for good causes, including the event’s official charity partner, Worcestershire Ambassadors . For 2021, the event weekend kicks off with Paula’s Families on Track, which will take place on the morning of Saturday 4th September at Worcester Racecourse. Paula will take care of the event and will also be there with her children Isla and Raphael.

The idea of athletics legend Paula Radcliffe, Families on Track, made its worldwide debut at the Durham City Run Festival in 2019 and offers family groups the opportunity to complete a 10k distance in a continuous relay in laps of either 1,000m, 500m or 250 m to complete a safe environment and format in which everyone can contribute, regardless of age or ability. Family teams of three to five runners can take part, with at least one member under 16 and one over 18 years old. The changes will take place in a central area at the venue that will be a hub for activity and entertainment. A team seat for a family group of three, four or five is £ 40, including a Nike Paula’s Families on Track t-shirt, medal and event goody bag for each team member.

Paula Radcliffe comments: “Sharing my passion for running with those I love most is very important to me and that inspired me to start Families on Track. I want to encourage families to get fit and active together and enjoy this experience. Everyone is affected by the pandemic and we’ve seen how the restrictions have affected people’s physical and mental health. When we get out of the crisis, taking action is more important than ever, and our format makes it easy and fun to do as a family. I’m really excited to bring Families on Track to Worcester in September! “

Anyone who has booked a seat at the Air Products Worcester City Runs in 2020 has automatically rolled over to 2021 (unless otherwise stated).
