Here are the criminals jailed this month in south Essex.

From drug cases to child sex offenses the courts have seen a range of cases.

Three drug dealers were jailed for a total of more than 11 years after police officers observed a £13,000 drug deal.

They were all sentenced at Basildon Crown Court on December 15 with Alfie Harding jailed for five years and a month and Keith Harding and Jason Nicholls both sentenced to three and-a-half years in prison.

They were arrested earlier this year after police had observed 49-year-old Nicholls and 61-year-old Keith Harding involved in a drug deal where £13,000 in cash was exchanged with another man for 1kg of cocaine before returning to Harding’s car.

When officers searched the house Keith and 22-year-old Alfie Harding shared at Seventh Avenue, Canvey Island, they seized a total of £5,750 in cash which was believed to have been the result of selling drugs.

Alfie Harding was charged with being concerned in the supply of cocaine and acquiring, using, or possessing criminal property.

Keith Harding was charged with possession with intent to supply a Class A drug as was Nicholls, of Scott Road, Grays.

Andrew Wilding, 42, of Southchurch Road, Southend was sentenced today at Basildon Crown Court for killing his mother in the home he shared with her.

Wilding was found guilty of murder and arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered. During the hearing this afternoon Judge Samantha Leigh told him he deliberately disabled the smoke alarms.

She said: “This was an evil and pre-planned act showing no mercy for the care you gave to your mother. I’ve seen no emotion from you.

“She was particularly vulnerable and suffered mental and psychological harm in the fire,. Her screams show she was awake when the hot gases started to burn her throat and led to her death.”

He was found guilty following a trial and during the trial, jurors were told that moments after setting fire to the home he fled to McDonald’s at Southend Airport to buy a milkshake.

A warrant was also executed at Verner’s home, in Thorney Bay caravan park, in Canvey. During a search there, offices found a significant quantity of ketamine, MDMA and cannabis.

Dymock was sentenced to a total of 45 months in prison and Verner was sentenced to a total of 36 months in prison.

Gary Tatchell, of Shoebury, was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court yesterday after the court heard he conned at least ten homeowners out of more than £6,000.

All of Tatchell’s victims were living in south Essex and agreed to pay him for work after he went door-to-door highlighting issues with people’s driveways.

Judge Shane Collery told the 55-year-old he had deceived people over a number of years but failed to see the need to change his ways. Tatchell was jailed for eight months at a sentencing hearing at the same court yesterday
