Worcestershire Municipal Transport System is getting a makeover

Kay Hawes

A charity working to provide a transportation lifeline to people in parts of Worcestershire, Shropshire and Herefordshire has announced the appointment of a new office clerk.

Kay Hawes has taken on her new administrative role at Tenbury Transport Trust, based in Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire, a charity that has been providing safe and reliable transportation to people who do not have adequate transportation of their own for more than 21 years.

Kay and her husband moved to the area from Hampshire about five years ago and say Tenbury Transport is their perfect job. Your job is to take care of customers’ transportation needs and the day-to-day running of the office.

“My husband and I love the area. I was born and raised in Kent and we wanted to retire up here because we’d loved to be for many years, but we decided to move while we could still find work, have fun and make new friends, “said Kay.

“When I saw the ad I knew it was the job I was looking for and it’s near home, which means I can be in the office quickly when I’m needed – it’s just that perfect role for me.

“My professional life has always included supporting and caring for others and my various roles have taken me to places like Italy, France and America.”

“The Trust provides a very important lifeline to the community and is so valuable to the people – not just to meet their transportation needs, but also as a point of contact, whether I answer on the answering machine or face to face with our drivers.

“I like to help and talk to people, which I have always done in my previous jobs.

“We cover a sizable rural area, not just Tenbury Wells, and people can feel isolated. Just knowing they have a trip to look forward to can often be a highlight of the week for them.

“I always try to get the message across that we will bring them into the house if they feel uncomfortable, are stuck inside, want to go shopping or have critical needs such as medication. It is important for them to know that they are not alone. ”

Wendy White, chairwoman of the charity, said, “Kay is a great addition to the Tenbury Transport Trust office. “In such a short space of time she has become a familiar, friendly voice for the Trust and we are delighted that she is working for us.”
